Totally Tubular 80's Party

My hubby turned the big Four O last weekend and to celebrate I threw him an 80's party. People kept asking me "why the 80's" my response: "big hair, funky clothes and awesome music....why not?!" Plus my hubs was a teenager in the late 80's so I thought it would be fun taking him back to that time!

I tried to go all out on the decorations...

I made a Mr. and Mrs. Pacman Happy Birthday sign out of poster board, construction paper, blue Die-Cut letters and fishing line. 

I covered the table with a black table cloth then used a half unfolded neon green table cloth as a runner. I got the amazing boom box center piece from Party City (they have a whole 80's section) and I found the candy from random gas stations around Colorado. 

I went to Walmart for the Transformer and Ninja Turtle posters, the characters dont look like they did in the 80's but that is when both of the cartoons came out so it works.

 Over the counter that had all the snacks on it I hung these spinning disco ball decorations from the ceiling.

I borrowed a few awesomely 80's records from my neighbor and displayed them on two of the shelves I have hanging on the walls.

I had the Happy 40 Birthday sign hanging on the outside of our front door, also from Party City.

I twisted some neon green, orange and yellow streamers then hung them from the stair banister. I added a few of the same colored balloons on the banister posts which added a lot.

I found my husbands super old lava lamp in the garage and thought it would make the perfect addition to our living room. 

I bought this awesomely ugly 80's blanket at Goodwill for $1 and it really brought the whole room together.

In the bathroom I wrote Jenny 867-5309 on the mirror....Tommy Tutone is awesome!

I also filled the bathrooms shelf with stuff that you would probably find in a bathroom in the 80's: Aqua Net hair spray, colorful heart barrettes, scrunchies, a funky bottle of cologne and some red lip stick.

The weather was supposed to be nice the day of the party so we thought it would be best to have the party inside and out so we decorated the garage too. I hung the same neon green, yellow and orange streamers from the rafters and I made a little chandelier using 4 tie die balloons that I had found at The Dollar Tree. I also had a local radio station that played the best of the 70's and 80's playing on our garage radio. 

I put out some of my husbands favorite snacks for everyone to munch on....

 My son and I made some Fire Crackers which were a gigantic hit, I had to email the recipe to everyone the next day. 

We also had tortilla chips with cream cheese salsa dip, pretzels, cheese balls and some *gag* pork rinds.

We had these disco ball plates and these colorful zebra print napkins for everyone to use, again from Party City.

 Besides beer we had soda, Tang and Kool-Aid...so 80's!

We had neon green cups and some crazy straws for people to drink these drinks with. 

Party Tip: 

Put out a Sharpie so your guests can write their names on their cup so they don't play the "is this my cup?" game all night.

I wanted to keep the adults and kinds entertained so....

For the kids I had bubbles to blow, outdoor tic tac toe using white chalk and rocks painted with blue X's and yellow O's and we had glow in the dark ring toss using glow sticks and bottles of water. 

(The kids decided to start playing before it got dark so it was semi glow in the dark ring toss)

And for the adults we had beer pong which kept them all entertained all night!

And of course everyone was suppose to dress the part....

I went for the leggings with the white scrunched down socks, the 80's Reebok high tops, an over sized AC/DC shirt and a side pony topped with a white scrunchie.

My son was 80's prep with some khaki shorts, a brown leather breaded belt, brown loafers and a popped collar.

My husband on the other hand was more 80's grunge wearing some of his old ripped jeans, high top Adidas, a Mustang shit and a horrible mullet wig...oh my!

We wanted everyone to vote for the person they thought was dressed the most 80's and who ever won got an awesome 80's prize, a 4 pack of Seagram's Wine Coolers and a Hits Of The 80's CD.

The party was amazing, it was so great having almost all our friends and almost all our family here celebrating my husbands birthday and it was so much fun dressing up and jamming out.

Night In New York

My very best friends birthday is tomorrow and I wanted to do something really special for her. She always talks about how much she loves New York City so I thought that a New York themed dinner  would be perfect!

 I decorated the table with a black table cloth, taxi inspired plates, the silhouette of New York's skyline and some decorative apples.

To get the taxi look I painted a plain white square plate checkered and placed the yellow round plate on top of that. I thought it looked pretty cool but then again I'm biased.

I cut the skyline silhouette out of black poster board. I looked up Silhouette Of New York's Skyline on Google then drew one of pictures I had found on the poster board. I used the twinkle lights I had from my New Years Camp In to try and bring the city to life. 

I cut a few stars out of the scrap pieces of poster board, painted them yellow then covered one side of them with gold glitter glue. I cut a tiny hole in the top of each star then slipped a piece of fishing line through the hole and hung it from the light over the table. 

I was going for a Broadway Show Marquee look when I made the birthday sign. I used a black poster board and a white poster board and again I cut out stars using scape pieces of poster board but this time I colored them gray and covered the big ones in silver glitter glue. I also lined her name in the silver glitter glue.

 Going right along with Broadway sign I had the Showtunes channel playing on our TV, it was awesome!

For dinner I made a couple pizzas. I used my sons New York taxi as decoration and I had a slideshow of pictures from New York playing on my iPad. 

For dessert I served mini New York Style cheesecakes which I found in the frozen section of my local grocery store.

I used one of these as her birthday cake.

To finish off the night I made us simple Cosmopolitans using citrus flavored vodka and cranberry juice.


You are such an amazing, caring, sweet, fun, outgoing, loving, wonderful person and the things you do and have done for me and my family are beyond amazing. We are so blessed and grateful to be able to call you a friend.

Treat For Teacher

At the end of the school year last year I put on a fun Last Day Luau to help celebrate the beginning of the summer with our kids so this year I wanted to come up with an idea for the teachers in our kids lives. This was the fun, tasty treat idea that I came up with.

Supplies:

Confetti Cup Cake Batter

Vanilla Frosting

Cute Cup Cake Liners

Red Food Coloring

Green Jelly Beans 

Pretzel Sticks

 I mixed up and baked the cupcakes using the directions on the back of the box. While they were baking I put a bit of the vanilla frosting into a bowl then mixed in red food coloring until I got the color red that I wanted.

 After the cupcakes were cooled I covered them with the red frosting then stuck half a pretzel stick in the middle and a green leaf on the side of that. 

And there you have it some super cute apple cupcakes!

For a cute little cupcake holder I used some plastic tumbler cups and some red ribbon.

I carefully punched 2 holes on each side of each cup then I slid some of the red ribbon into the holes in half of the cups.

I placed a cupcake into the cup then slid the other end of each ribbon into the holes in the other cups then tied them making an adorable cup cake holder.

Happy Birthday Blog!

Exactly two years ago today I posted my very first blog post, Hello There, which means that today is my blogs 2nd birthday...yay! My first post wasn't anything, in fact my first four blog posts weren't much of anything at all, but in the last two years my blog has grown so much and I am so proud of it. To celebrate my blogs birthday I thought that it would be nice to take a little stroll down memory lane, but I didn't want to overwhelm by posting a huge list of my past blog posts so I asked a few of my friends and a few of my family members which of my posts they have liked the best. So here are a couple of their favorites and a couple of mine... 

My Favorites

 On one of my many trips to Oregon my mom and I threw a Cars themed birthday party for my son which turned out so well, everyone loved it including the birthday boy...he still talks about it.

One of my first Thrifted Twin Threads post is still one of my favorites. It was for Halloween and it was Emma Swan from Once Upon A Time and Alice from Once Upon A Time In Wonderland and I think they both looked pretty darn close, I was and still am so proud.

One of my very favorite Curious posts is Curious In Oregon. Portland has always been one of my favorite cities, I have been exploring it since I was little, so it was fun sharing all of my favorite things to do in Portland. Plus checking out some of the sites where Grimm has filmed was pretty awesome!

Family Favorites

One of my brothers favorite posts is the Homemade Hummus. He loves hummus, he puts it on everything, so he said he was happy when I posted this recipe because now he can save money by making it at home.

One of my husbands favorite posts is the Ultimate Breakfast Skillet of course. He loves Village Inn's Ultimate Breakfast Skillet so when I made it for him at home he was stoked, I now have to make it for him at least once a month.

One of my moms favorite posts is the Valentines Day treasure hunt that I did for my son. She said that it is very cute, creative and sweet.

Friends Favorites

My first friends favorite post is my Last Day Luau. He said that the food looked amazing and everything else looked like a lot of fun, It made him want to play like a kid again. He also told me that he thinks I should leave the sign up on the door all year round.

My second friends favorite post is my Kate Middleton Thrifted Twin Threads. She said that she really liked this look because it was cute and simple.

My third friends favorite post is my Snow Day Stair Workout. She told me that its just so practical since all you need are stairs.



Blogging is one of my very favorite things to do and doing this blog has helped me in so many ways. It is my outlet, my escape, my pride, my imagination, my creativity...it is me! So cheers to my blogs 2nd birthday and cheers to many many more years of doing what I love to do....blogging.

Go Diego Go Party

Every year I put together a themed party for my sons birthday, this year he picked Go Diego Go!

Just like his past parties my son dressed accordingly. I searched our thrift stores high and low for clothes to make a Diego outfit and this is what I came up with, he absolutely loved being Diego!

Just like my Mother-In-Law's Twilight Dinner Party, I made my son a Happy Birthday sign using two pieces of orange poster board and some blue Die-Cut Letters. 

I rolled up and scrunched a couple Jot Mailing Paper rolls from The Dollar Tree to make some long vines and my husband and I cut out a bunch of jungle leaves from a few different colored green poster boards. I taped the leaves onto the vines and tada....jungle vines!
I used my sons stuffed animals as decorates around the house. I hung a stuffed monkey from the vine over our table and used two stuffed hippos as the center piece on the table. 

I had covered the table with an orange table cloth and used a blue table cloth that was folded in half as a table runner, Diego colors. 

We had a few extra jungle leaves so I used them around the house to make everything a bit more colorful and jungle like.

 I also made a jungle vine to wrap around our staircase banister.

I set a few more stuffed animals on our coffee table and threw a giraffe print blanket over the side of the couch.

Every year I make a themed birthday sign for our front door.
(After the party is over I hang the sign from my sons bedroom door...its kind of our tradition now.)

A themed party of mine just wouldn't be the same without a scent to match the theme. I put some Rain Forest scented wax melts into my Potpourri Crock which made our whole house smell wonderful.

Of course I stuck with the jungle, animal theme for the snacks as well with...

Of course no Go Diego Go party would be complete without a Rescue Center! 

I threw an old tan sheet over my sons Toy Story Pop Up Tent then taped the Rescue Center sign that I had drawn and colored over the Rescue Center door. The kids at the party loved this little fort and it kept them all entertained and busy pretty much the whole party.

I do have to say that my sons Go Diego Go party was a hit, it was his favorite themed birthday party so far. In the words of my Mother-In-Law "welp Lindsey, you did it again!"

March Madness Munchies

One of the things that my husband and I immediately bonded over when we started dating was our love for sports, he actually liked how I would ignore him when I was watching my Seahawks on TV...role reversal! We go to as many sports games as we can...Nuggets, Broncos, Rockies, Rapids, Avalanche, Blazers ect...and we spend pretty much the whole three weeks of March Madness and the whole NFL season parked on the couch cheering on our teams. My husband's favorite NCAA basketball team has been the Syracuse Orange since he was 13 and since their first tournament game in on today at 12:50 I thought it would be nice of me to make him a special lunch to get him pumped and ready for the game!

I made each of us an individual pepperoni basketball pizza from scratch.

(I used the same dough recipe that I used for my Chicken "Hot Pocket" recipe)

Of course we needed something refreshing to wash our pizza down with so I made these orange and blue, and kind of green, drinks using an orange SoBe and a blue Powerade.
(You can make this drink in your teams colors too, just keep in mind that the drink with the heaviest sugar content goes on the bottom!)

And for a dessert I made these cute basketball treats using Reese's and some orange frosting.

Now if you'll excuse me I have some NCAA basketball tournaments to watch with my hubby!
